  • Is the HDS-600RS only available in the UK?
    • The unit is currently only available in the UK market. For regular news updates, including new product information, please sign-up for our newsletter and make sure you visit myechostar.com regularly.

  • Does the HDS-600RS require a satellite dish?
    • Yes. The HDS-600RS has been specifically designed to work with the Freesat+ service. Freesat is delivered by satellite; see www.freesat.co.uk (link) for installation details. To optimise the functionality for the HDS-600RS, we strongly advise that you use an LNB with 2 outputs. Note that this product does not work with a terrestrial aerial or the freeview service.

  • Why do I need to enter my postcode?
    • By entering your postcode in the Set-up Wizard, the HDS-600RS is able to assign the correct regional channels for your specified location.
  • Can I receive Sky TV channels on the HDS-600RS?
    • No. The HDS-600 is only designed for the Freesat+ service please see www.freesat.co.uk for details.

  • What is the smart card slot for?
    • The HDS-600RS has been designed with an element of added value future-proofing. The card slots can allow the addition of card-based services to be added in the future.

  • What direction do I point my dish to get Freesat?
    • We always recommend that you use a professional installer to ensure optimal performance. Please contact Freesat www.freesat.co.uk or your retailer for details. Most retailers offer the opportunity to purchase an installation when you buy your Freesat + HD digital television recorder. The Freesat service is available on the Astra 2 satellite which is located at 28.2 degrees east.

  • Can I use my current satellite dish?
    • If you have a working satellite dish professionally installed and tuned to Astra 2 (located at 28.2 degrees) then you this should work with the HDS-600RS. Please note that to ensure that the unit operates at an optimal level, a dual LNB with 2 cables is required. One cable should be connected to tuner 1 and one to tuner 2. We always recommend that you consult a professional installer to ensure that your existing set-up is optimised for use with Freesat and the HDS-600RS.

  • Can I watch On Demand and catch-up TV on the HDS-600RS outside the UK?
  • Can I watch On Demand and catch-up TV outside the UK on my mobile device using TV anywhere?
    • Unfortunately, some connected TV apps can not be used with TV anywhere. We recommend that you contact the On Demand and catch-up TV service providers directly for more details on what restrictions are in place: www.freesat.co.uk and www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer.

  • I’m unable to access BBC iPlayer on my HDS-600RS even though I’m in the UK?
    • Sometimes your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may allocate you a new IP address, or will carry out maintenance work that means you are given a new IP address. In some cases, this IP address will not yet be registered by your ISP as being in the United Kingdom, and therefore the BBC iPlayer will no longer recognise you as being in the UK. This is something that can be corrected by your ISP.

For any problems with connecting to or using On Demand TV from Freesat including BBC iPlayer, please consult or Freesat www.freesat.co.uk or www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer in the first instance.

  • How to perform a manual upgrade using a USB storage device.
    • By default, the HDS-600RS will periodically check with our update services to see if there is a newer version of software available. This will be done either over-the-air by talking to the satellite or over the internet (see: How do I get new software updates?) if you have connected your box to the internet. Please note that in some circumstances, downloads may only be available for internet or manual download, we would therefore encourage you to periodically check your current version of software against the latest version available on our website.

To check your current version of software, please see: How can I find my current software version? To then manually verify your current version against the latest available software please see here. If you have connected your box to the internet, you can also verify your software version and check for any updates over the internet by visiting: How can I check for software updates?

Note: PCs and Macs may vary slightly according to operating system.

      1. Insert a clear memory stick into your computer's USB port. Cancel any dialogue box that may automatically pop-up.
      2. Go to: www.myechostar.com/Products/ConnectedDevices/HDS-600RS/Support/Downloads and select the 'product software' link.
      3. When the dialogue box opens please select 'save'.
      4. When the 'save as' dialogue box opens find and select your USB storage device in the drop down menu.
      5. Click 'save' to save the software to your USB storage device. Note: please ensure that you do not save the software to a folder or sub folder.
      6. Power-up your HDS-600RS, ensure that it's connected to your TV and select a live video channel.
      7. Insert the USB storage device into either the front or rear USB port on the HDS-600RS.
      8. A pop-up message will appear on your TV screen confirming that a software update has been found. Press 'OK' to install the update.
      9. The update process can take up to 3 minutes. Do not disconnect the HDS-600RS or do not press any buttons while the upgrade is in process. Your TV will show the download steps and once completed switch back to live video.
      10. When the download is completed you can verify that the new software is installed by the following steps:

      • Select 'main menu', 'settings', 'Technical Info' and 'Version info'.
      • Remove the USB memory stick and enjoy the new software features.

Please note! If you have problems updating using memory stick, please ensure that the memory stick is a FAT32 (preferred) or FAT formatted, there are no other files or folder on the memory stick, and that the software update file is placed in the root (no folders) of the memory stick.

  • How do I get Channel 4 HD?

If your box is connected to the internet via your broadband router you may have already performed a software update by following the onscreen instructions, however, if your box is connected to the internet and you do not have the latest version of software see: How can I check for software updates? to check for the latest update and follow on-screen instructions to accept the new version of software.
